Meet Mr. Winters

Max Winters first picked up the trumpet at eleven years old after being inspired by his sisters who played in their middle school and high school bands. He found the trumpet to be a fascinating instrument and wanted to pursue it for himself. Since then, he has been classically trained on the trumpet, cornet, and flugelhorn. Mr. Winters earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music from San Francisco State University, receiving private instruction from Adam Luftman, the principal trumpet for the San Francisco Opera and San Francisco Ballet, and Bradley Hogarth, the director of bands at San Francisco State as well as a freelance trumpet player who works regularly with the San Francisco Symphony and the Contra Costa Wind Symphony. He also received two years of professional vocal training during his undergraduate studies at Ventura College and is self-taught on the ukulele as well. Mr. Winters worked as a youth development professional at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme for four years. He is now in the process of completing his teaching credential with California State University Long Beach on top of doing freelance music work playing with local bands, theater companies, ballet companies, and churches in and around Ventura County.
Mr. Winters' Teaching Philosophy
Music has always been a very positive and empowering force in Mr. Winters' life, and as an educator, Mr. Winters will do whatever possible to ensure that all of his students, regardless of their reason for being in the classroom, have the chance to experience that same uplifting force.
